Closing it in

A tedious job but all of the insulation was finally glued into place.  It takes two layers to make the bend and even then it sometimes needs the help of saw cuts on the inside to make the bend.

The beginning of the big hatch back.

  1. Gary, Do you have any details on your hatch build?. It looks like it was built in place then cut out and finished outside the trailer. I'm building a simple tear with my 2 boys and help from my husband. I have my walls up and about 1/2 the spars in. I'd love to see more on that part of your build.
Thanks Karen and The brooks Bunch

  2. Apologies for my late reply as I've been out of the country for a week or so and didn't have access to my old photos.

Yes it was built in place as if there wasn't going to be a hatch there at all. The skin was 4mm ply with fiberglass over it later. I chose a thin ply to prevent the hatch from trying to straighten out after it was cut away. Also the ply had the grain horizontal to make it easier to bend. I realized later that my methods weren't necessarily the easiest way to go but my boatbuilding background had me making sure of success at each stage.

So far the hatch still fits.

I can't seem to find any other photos than are already on the blog.
